A Clinical Study of 14 Cases of Primary Cancer of the Gall Bladder

Abstract
|
|
|
A total of 14 cases of primary cancer of the gall bladder were clinically reviewed, who have
been diagnosed hitologically and treated surgically at Department of General Surgery, College of
Medicine Pusan National University during 12 years from January 1957 to December 1969.
The following results were obtained.
1. The ages ranged between 22 and 68 years, and peak age incidence was in the age group of
40∼59, and its number of patients was 9 (64.3%).
2. The sex incidence showed that male to female ratio was 4:3.
3. The clinical symptoms were very resemble with cholecystitis, therfore earlt laparotomy was
most successful method for early diagnosis of the cancer of the gall bladder.
4. Past history, liver function test and cholecystography were not diagnostic.
5. Many patients with cancer of the gall bladder were inoperable when they came in for treat
ment and the resectability was 50%.
6. 14.3% of gall bladder cancer were associated with stones, therefore it suggested that gall stone
was not a factor of the gall bladder cancer.
7. Histological studies on all cases were revealed adenocarcinoma.
8. Over all operative mortality was 1 case (7.1%).
